  • And then choose the deactivate All Online Services option, which will then require the user to click on OK tab

  • Now, craft a new account in the Chart of Accounts. Also, note that while setting up the account name, the user needs to paste the text that was copied earlier.
  • And end the process by closing and reopening the company file.

  • For merging the accounts, the user at first need to move to the Chart of Accounts.
  • And then, right-click the account with the asterisk, followed by selecting Edit Account.
  • Now, delete the asterisk, and then choose Save & Close options respectively
  • Once done with that, the user needs to click on Yes, in order to merge the accounts.

  • And lastly, test if you can download transactions without any issues or not.

Method 3: Editing the fidir.txt preferences

  • For this, the user needs navigate to the following location C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks 20XX\Components\OLB\branding\filist and locate the fidir.txt file.
  • Now, right-click the file and choose the Properties option.
  • And lastly opt for the read-only box and you are done.

Method 4: Repairing QuickBooks Software

  • In this process, the very first step is to press Windows + E keys. (For Windows 8, select the Computer tab).
  • And then choose the Uninstall or change a program.
  • After that click on QuickBooks and then Uninstall/Change.

  • The next step is to add the word OLD to the folder name, at the end. This would resist the QuickBooks software from opening it when the user tries to reinstall it.
  • End the process, by reinstalling the QuickBooks software.

Method 6: Updating the financial institution directory to the latest version available

In case none of the above methods worked in fixing the error, the user can carry out the steps below:

  1. The very first step is to move to the C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks 20XX\Components\OLB\branding\filist
  2. And then spot the fidir.txt file and rename it to fidir.old
  3. Moving ahead, the user needs to right click the link to the version of QuickBooks you are using, in order to get the latest file and then select the save target as/save link as from the pop-up menu.

  1. In the next step, the user will see a save as window appearing on the screen. Followed by selecting the desktop as the file location and then hitting the save option
  2. This step is not mandatory, if the download complete window gets displayed on the screen, then user can select the close tab.
  3. The user is then required to copy the downloaded fidir.txt file for correcting the filist folder
  4. The user should right click the fidir.txt file and then click on copy tab
  5. Now, on the keyboard press Windows + E keys and open the computer window
  6. After that move to the filist folder i.e. C:\ProgramData\Intuit\QuickBooks20XX\Components\OLB\branding\filist
  7. Moving ahead, the user needs to right click the filist folder and then click on the paste option. The fidir.txt file that was copied by the user from the desktop will be seen in the folder.
  8. The last step is to open the QuickBooks desktop and also set up the account and this ends the process.
